In a shocking protest in the National Capital Region, men in Faridabad have taken to the streets, demanding that the government provide more plain brick walls for them to relieve themselves on. “All the walls we used to pee on have been painted over or beautified, and it has become difficult for us to find the right wall to aim at,” said Mr. Kumar. “Now the government is charging us Rs 5 to use the public toilet, when peeing in the open should be our inalienable right,” he added. Another protester, Mr. Shukla, complained that he suffers from a urinary tract infection and that using a government toilet every time is financially unviable for him. “We just need a few plain walls at different junctions. No paint, no fancy facades—just walls,” he insisted.
One gentleman, who joined the protest later, stated that he finds it hard to urinate on anything other than a brick wall. “Even if I go home, I’m uncomfortable using the bathroom. There’s just nothing like urinating in the open. For us, the wall is a canvas, and we are the artists. The artist needs the canvas, and the canvas needs the artist,” he explained.
Several men noted that peeing on a wall is not just about free relief; it allows a man to leave his mark on the world in a very real way. “It’s been done this way since walls were invented,” said Mr. Kumar. “There is a natural and existential connection between the man and the wall,” he added.
Authorities in Faridabad have acknowledged the complaint and announced that they will erect five plain brick walls at various locations throughout the city. However, many men are concerned that this won’t be enough to stop the flow.
